Abstract

27,730. Forman, W., and Klicks, O. Dec. 17. Parallel knitting-machines.-Fashioned tubular elastic work is made on a Lamb machine with four sets of needles. The upper needles g, h have side bends on their stems, Fig. 10, upward projections i and bevelled undersides. The frame needles e, f are mounted between blades 2 and on jacks 1 which are strung by slots 3 on wires 4. By moving the jacks endwise, the frame needles may be moved in or out of action during fashioning. The knocking-over bits 7, Fig. 4, have notches to hold down the work and keep it at the same level. The cam-carrying plates k, n and l, n for working needles g, e. and h, f are fixed to reciprocating bracketsm. The blocks sliding on the bar r carries the guide p for the rubber strand and also the sliding bar t which bears the yarn-guide o. A stud on the bracket m engages the block s until disengaged by an incline on an adjustable stop. The latter also stops the bar t and yarn-guide o, a little earlier than the guide p, so that on the return motion the yarn may be laid in advance of the rubber. The needles f, g knit part of the elastic tube while the needles e, h are inactive. After the needles f, g draw back, a rubber strand is laid on the looped yarn. The needles .f then knock off their old loops and both needles f, g advance to prevent displacement of the rubber. The needles g then advance further while the needles f retreat. The sinker loops thus slide along the side bends of the needle g, Fig. 10, as far as the projections i. The loops are then opposite, and ready to be taken by, the needles f which advance and remove them. The rubber threads are thus caught between the doubled loops as shown in Fig. 17. As the needles g withdraw, their latches are closed ; at the next traverse of the cams, special latch openers open the latches ready to receive the knitting yarn.
