The cork is placed transversely across the mouth of the bottle, and is secured in. position by a suitable fastening - arrangement attached to a collar i on the neck. The fastening may consist of a strap b secured by a catch c, Fig. 1, or by a screw d &c., Fig. 3. The cork a may be of the usual cylindrical shape, or it may be of rectangular or other cross-section, the seat on the neck being formed of corresponding shape.
