Abstract
8149. Hadley, W. April 18. Locks, key; padlocks.-In padlocks and other locks the parts of the case are made so as to be separable when the lock is open and locked together when it is locked. In Figs. 3 and 4 a padlock is shown with one side of the case removed. The part removed is provided with L-.shaped studs which may be engaged with lugs E on the part C. The shackle B is pivoted to a sliding block G, which is locked when pushed into the case by a lever or levers F. The tail B<1> of the shackle is then engaged by a snug E as shown in Fig. 4, to prevent it from being opened till the block G is withdrawn. The tail B<1> also locks the L-shaped stud of the cover-plate, which lies in the space H. The levers F may be operated by an ordinary key, or by a plate key, Fig. 7, passed through a slot in the periphery of the lock.
