Abstract

20,768. Bartleet, F. Oct. 3. Moulding rollers &c.-Rollers for use in textile machinery and for mangling, calendering, and like purposes are covered with a plastic composition consisting of granulated or powdered cork, which has been saturated with glue, shellac, or other suitable adhesive substance, which will dissolve in water or spirit, and dried. The roller a is placed vertically in a mould b, and the plastic material is compressed between the mould and roller by hydraulic or other suitable pressure. The mould may be in two or more parts, suitably clasped together. The covering is baked in an oven while still in the mould, and is subsequently removed therefrom, polished, varnished, and dried. The composition may be applied to a thin tube, which is afterwards cemented upon the roller.
