Abstract

Wheels with aircompressing appliances; tyres, pneumatic; hubs.- Means for automatically inflating a pneumatic tyre by the motion of the vehicle are shown in partial circumferential section in Fig. 1. Within the air tube A is formed a separate air chamber C, into which air is drawn from the external atmosphere through a non-return valve E, and from which air is forced into the air tube A through a second non-return valve D, when the air chamber C comes into contact with the ground. The tension of a safety-valve G is so regulated as to allow the air to pass through this valve instead of through the valve D when the tyre is fully inflated. In the modification shown in crosssection in Fig. 2, the air chamber C, which may be bellows-shaped, lies alongside the air tube A. Fig. 5 shows a further modification, in which the air chamber is replaced by a pump C, of which the piston p is operated by a clamp t. According to the Provisional Specification, the piston may be operated from an eccentric on the wheel axle, and the pump may be inside the hub. The safety-valve may have an alarm.
