Act, 1907.] Tyres, pneumatic; felloes or rims.-The felloe of the wheel is made hollow and is used as the air chamber. In the wheel shown in Fig. 1, the felloe a has overhanging outer edges, against which abuts a steel band e. The chamber thus formed is made air-tight by a leather or other band d, kept in contact with the sides of the felloe by the internal air pressure. The tread b is of solid rubber, and is threaded with steel bands or wires c connected at their ends, to prevent it from enlarging circumferentially. In a modification, the felloe is made of three separate parts bolted together. The overhanging outer edges of the felloe, and the steel band e are serrated to prevent creeping.
