Abstract

15,399. Streitz, W. June 28. Treadle-driving gearing.-Figs. 1 and 2 show one form of gear, which is particularly applicable to bicycles, but may be employed to drive sewing- machines, printing-machinery, &c. Each pedal C is loosely mounted on the shaft and carries a disc C<1> to which four pawls D are pivoted. These, during the movement of the pedal in one direction, engage the flange of a disc B keyed on the spindle A from which power is taken in any convenient way. In a modification shown in Fig. 3, the crank C rotates one half F of a clutch which, when moving in one direction rotates the other half H and when stationary or moving in the other is pushed aside against a spring K.
