Compound or articulated road vehicles.-A tractor supporting the front end of a twowheel trailer is provided with an automatic coupling to the trailer and with lifting mechanism by means of which the trailer may be tipped for unloading. The front end of the trailer having supporting legs 9, Fig. 1, is provided with a spherical head 6 which engages in a hemispherical recess 5 in the tractor and is secured therein by a spring locking bolt 10. A roller 7 which is disposed in the middle plane of the spherical head 6, as shown in Fig. 2, runs up the incline 8 on the tractor when engagement takes places. The recess 5 is formed in a bracket slidable vertically in a guideway 2, being raised or lowered by cables 3 of a lifting apparatus or by other means.
