Abstract

185,709. Etchells, Congdon, & Muir, Ltd., and Muir, F. April 22, 1922. Controlling reversing-gearing.-A lift is reversed without changing the direction of rotation of the engine by the following mechanism, which comprises means for braking the driven shaft during change of direction. An extension shaft C coupled to the engine shaft a carries a gear D and a sprocket-wheel D<1>. The gear D meshes with a gear d connected to the free member f<1> of a friction clutch F and a chain d<2> connects the sprocket D' and a sprocket d' formed integrally with the free member g' of a friction clutch G. The members f, g of the clutches are keyed to a slidable shaft E which is connected to a driven worm shaft b<1> by a sliding coupling K preferably forming part of a brake drum M. The shaft E is moved longitudinally by a lever N attached to a sliding rod n which is connected by a rod n<1> to a crank p on the shaft of the handrope controlling pulley P. A spring n<2> maintains the lever N in central position. The brakeshoes, which are applied automatically to the drum M, are released by a lever R, which is also connected to the crank p.
