Abstract

Bell and audible signalling systems. - A lowpotential device 7, such as a bell, is supplied from high-potential mains 1, 2 through a switching system comprising a high-resistance magnet 6 connected in series with a still higher resistance 5' across the mains 1, 2. The operation of the system is as follows :-When the switch 12 in the circuit of the device 7 is closed, the highresistance coil 14 of the magnet 13 is energized and the armature 16 is attracted to insert a resistance 15, which may be a coil on the magnet 13, in parallel with the coil 14. The attraction of the armature 16 also places a low-resistance 20 in parallel with the coil of the magnet 6. The initially-attracted armature 21 of the magnet 6 is released to shunt the high-resistance 5 and to place a relatively low resistance 23 in series with the resistance 20, the coil of the magnet 6, and the device 7 connected in parallel. The armature 16 is released slowly by providing the magnet 13 with a closed copper conductor.
