Abstract

Electric operation; electrically controlled from vehicle.-In track points operated from a contactor P on the conductor D to a position dependent on whether the car is running or coasting past the contactor the points magnet N is under the control of two relays X, Y energized in timed relationship. Contact bar E of the contactor is connected to the conductor D through a. current-selective relay X which is of low resistance and is operated only by a heavy current. Its armature A1 selects the coil SN, C'N of the low-resistance magnet N to be energized. Relay Y has a copper or brass sleeve T1, or a dash-pot or other retarding device and is of high inductance and slow magnetic response. Relay Y, shunted by a resistance R1, is connected to earth through a resistance R2 and also to contact bar C of the contactor. The armature A2 actuates a switch 6 so as to insert a resistance R4 in a circuit from contact bar C to magnet N to prevent over-heating of this magnet. The resistance R1 provides a path for leakage current from contact bar C and also suppresses the arc broken by switch 6.
