Vacuum tubes.-In an electric incandescent lamp or other apparatus having a stretched filament, the filament 2 is kept taut by a spring 5 of tungsten or other metal which rebains its elasticity when heated and the current is carried by a bridgepiece 3 across the filament, between its extremity and the terminal 4, this bridge being made of nickel or other suitable metal of low resistance. In an alternative form, the bridge piece is helical and concentric with the spring 5.
