Abstract
174,956. Clark, G. E. Nov. 10, 1920. Ball and float valves.-In a valve device for admitting compressed air to closed vessels to discharge liquids, more particularly acids, therefrom, a pipe a connects the liquid-container b to the valve chamber c in which a float d having a ,conical valve e is arranged. The passage g, h is connected to the compressed-air supply, and vent passages j are arranged in the plate carrying the pipe g. Liquid inlet and outlet pipes y, x are provided for the vessel b. When the float d is raised by the liquid, the vent passages w are closed by the float, and the rod k also closes the passage m leading to the chamber n. Compressed air is simultaneously admitted by the valve e to discharge the liquid. When the vessel b is empty compressed air passes up through the pipe z to equalize the pressure on the upper side of the float, which then falls and closes the valve e and opens the vent openings so that the vessel b may refill. The pipe p may be carried above the supply tank to prevent loss of liquid if the valve fails, and may be provided with a stop valve so that the vessel b may be discharged by admitting air through the pipe a<1>.
