Abstract

174,103. Schat, A. P. July 26, 1920. Boat raising and lowering gear. -Consists in pulley-tackle for lowering loads such as ships' beats, in which the hauling part of the rope is wound upon a drum provided with automatic braking means and the pulley-blocks are provided with means for frictionally braking the rope. The winding drum brake may be loaded by means of a weighted lever, spring or the like or, as shown, the brake may be applied by the load. The boat 1 is suspended from the davit 2 by pulley-tackle of the kind described in Specification 16'7,360 and comprising upper and lower blocks, the lower block a having a sliding spreading-bar b arranged between the bights of the hauling rope 3 and the fixed rope 6. The bar b is hinged to a brake lever e carrying a brakeblock g adapted to act on the pulley or rope. The arrangement is such that the difference in tension of the ropes produced by the load releases the brake when hauling in and applies it when pa.ying out, and in the latter case. in conjunction with the brake on the drum, holds the load suspended. The fixed rope 6 is connected to a lever 7 carrying a brake block acting on the drum 4 and is adjusted to exert the required braking force, which allows the load to be lowered by the release of the hand lever e by an operator in the boat but sustains the load when the hand lever is actuated bv the difference in tension in the ropes. Specifications 149,175, 154,470, [Class 78 (v), Winding and paying-out apparatus, &c.], and 168,970 are referred to.
