Systems for continuous-current motors only: electric braking.-In controlling a shunt-wound motor A, driving a planing-machine or the like,. by means of a pair of reversing contactors F, R, provision is made for exerting a powerful dynamic braking effect upon the motor in case one of the contactors fails to open when required. The effect is obtained by moving the master switch S so as to close the open contactor, thus making a momentary short-circuit across the mains, and providing a circuit-breaker C, B which immediately responds and cuts off the supply. The circuit-breaker may, as shown, be provide'd with auxiliary contacts 11, 12 which co-operate with a braking contactor B to establish another braking circuit including a, resistance R in case the reversing contactors behave normally.
