Abstract

168,227. Filon, L. N. G. July 24, 1920. Dials and scales; modifying scale of readings. -An indicating-dial suitable for altimeters has a scale arranged spirally on the dial, which can be rotated so as progressively to vary the value of the graduations. In the form shown, the barometer pointer 4 moves over a rotatable dial 2 formed with a volute groove 3 marked in degrees of temperature. Slidable in the groove is a flexible band 7 graduated in altitudes, the graduations being shown on bent-over tabs 11. The dial is rotatable by means of a pinion 10, and the band scale may be adjusted for zero by shifting a clamp-slide 16 linked or pin-and-slot connected to one end 14 of the band. The height and temperature scales may be placed on the flexible band and the volute groove provided with a datum mar@k . In a further modification, the groove and scale may be replaced by a volute curve graduated in both heights and temperatures and the casing may carry an adjustable index for showing initial readings of temperature at ground level.
