167,599. Taylor (Birmingham), Ltd., C., and Taylor, G. B. May 15, 1920. Chucks. - Independent radial jaw-carriers of chucks are locked after a preliminary adjustment, screw-jaws mounted in the carriers being then operated to grip the work. The screw-jaws h are provided with internal keyways for operation, and carry snap-on contact-pieces m which may be formed with ball seatings and may be applied to either end of the jaw. The carriers g in which the jaws h are mounted slide radially in slots d and are locked in the adjusted positions by eccentric-operated keys i, engaging teeth g<3> on their rear faces. The eccentric spindles j are journaled in the chuck-body and are retained in the set positions by springs l engaging the flats j<5>, Fig. 4. The carriers g may be reversed in their slots without dismantling the chuck. For gripping work internally, the jaw-keys n, Fig. 6, are operated through pinion gearing by a detachable hand-key o.
