Abstract

166,210. Allen, R. March 12, 1919. Piston packing.- A split positioning- ring c, Fig. 1, embracing the bottom of the packing - ring groove is placed on one or both sides of a narrow packing-ring in order to fill the groove and to prevent rotation of the packing-ring. The ring c may be formed with a tooth d engaging a recess in the packing-ring at the joint, or one end of the groove, or may be formed with serrations engaging serrations in the bottom of the packing groove. A projection e on the ring c enters recesses cut in the packing-ring at the joint, or one end of the ring c may be bent to enter the packing-ring joint. In a modfication, Fig. 5, a separate stop is formed with a peg g<1> entering a hole in the packing-groove, and with an elongated head g which engages recesses at the joints of the packing-ring and of the ring c. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 17833/88, 16951/94, 22868/96. and 21640/05.
