Abstract
165,319. British Northrop Loom Co., Ltd., (Northrop Loom Co.). June 9, 1920. Take-up motions.-When the desired length has been wound on the cloth roll in operative relation with' the sand roll 4, Fig. 4, this loaded cloth roll, which is carried by racks or supports 16 at each side of the loom, is moved automatically from its operative position, and an empty cloth roll carried by supports or racks 17 is substituted therefor. At each side of the loom, both racks &c. 16, 17 engage a pinion 15 fast to a shaft 14, Figs. 2, 3, and 4, provided with a spring 27 having one end connected to a collar fast to the shaft, and the other end connected to a sleeve 30 bolted to the guide-frame 18 of the racks &c. 16, 17. The shaft 14 passes through the guideframes 18. A spring-controlled pawl 45 normally engages one of two shoulders 33 on a wheel 32 fast to the sleeve 30, whereby this sleeve and the guide-frame 18 are prevented from rotating, and the stressed spring 27 causes the pinion 15 to move the racks &c. 16, 17 outwardly, so that the operative cloth roll is pressed yieldingly into contact with the sand roll. When a sufficient length has been wound, a lug 41 on a star-wheel driven from the sand-roll shaft 5 trips the pawl 45 and releases the wheel 32, the sleeve 30, and the frame 18, which are thereupon rotated through half a revolution, until the pawl 45 engages the other shoulder 33, and the empty cloth roll is substituted for the full one, as indicated in Fig. 4. The racks &c. 16, 17 are moved outwardly by the stressed spring 27, springs 53 situated between fast and loose collars on the racks &c. cushioning their outward movements. The bearings 23, 24 for the cloth rolls are provided with cap-pieces 59. In place of a single spring 27, two springs, one at each side of the loom, may be used.
