Abstract

161,572. Bliss Co., E. W., (Assignees of Klocke, W.). April 9, 1920, [Convention date]. Cupping.-In a drawing press having a punch 10 and a die 11 or blank holder reciprocating in opposite directions, these are made to counterbalance during part of the movement by using suitable driving connections. The punch 10 is operated by a crank 15 and connecting-rod 17, while the die 11 is operated by the same or another crank through a link 35, lever 31, toggle 43, levers 39 and toggles 29. The axis 21 of the crank 15 is so located that in the extended position of the toggle 43 the link 35 is approximately at right angles to the arm 31, and if only one crank 15 is used the arm 31 should be at right angles to the arm 32 of the toggle 43, thus ensuring a dwell of the die 11 during the operation of the punch 10.
