Proving or raising appliances. - Independent receptacles containing dough are moved on guides in a zig-zag course through a proving-chamber by the action of pushers and of means for raising and lowering them. In the apparatus shown, dough-receptacles, consisting of a container b<1>, Fig. 2, pivotally carried by end members b which slide on guides a<2>, a<3>, &c. move in a zig-zag path indicated by arrows from the charging position at the right-hand end of the chamber to the discharging position immediately below. The longitudinal movement along the guides is effected by pushers f<2>, f<3>, &c. on vertical rods c - - c3 connected by horizontal links d, d<1>, e, e<1> etc.; and given intermittent horizontal reciprocating motion by levers h', m operated by cams. These pushers engage the end container of each row, the whole now being moved owing to the containers being contiguous. The container at the other end of the row is thus pushed on to one of the carriers A' - - D<1> &c. on the vertical rods A - - D, which are reciprocated vertically by cam-operated levers E, F, and thus move the container up or down into the initial position of the succeeding row. Before the vertical carrier again moves, the container is pushed off it on to the fixed guide. A pusher f<1> on the rod c feeds the containers into the chamber.
