Abstract

159,762. Hill, F. W., Holder, H. L., and Smith, J. F. March 6, 1920. Coupling.-A device for securing together the ends of round driving belts, ropes, cords, &c. consists of a flexible sleeve a of interlaced, braided, pleated, or woven wire, reinforced by collars b. The collars b may be separate rings, or may be formed by dipping the ends of the slabs in molten solder. The ends of the belt c are introduced into the sleeve until they touch, and the sleeve is then squeezed into contact with the belt and drawn outwards, thus causing it to grip the belt. The ends of the fasteners may be turned over in order to strengthen it. and the inturned ends of the wires forming it may then be used as teeth to strengthen the grip.
