Description

(54) A PACKAGE OF FLAT SACKS OR BAGS (71) We, WINDMÖLLER & BR< HOLSCHER, a Kommanditgesellschaft organised and existing under the laws of the Federal Republic of Germany, of 48-52 Miinsterstrasse, 454 Lengerich, Westphalia, the Federal Republic of Germany, do hereby declare the invention for which we pray that a patent may be granted to us, and the method by which it is to be performed, to be particularly described in and by the following statement:- The invention relates to a package of flat sacks or bags which are superposed in overlapping scale formation and are coiled to form a. transportable reel of an imbricated band held together by a retaining tape.
In reels of imbricated band which are known from DT-OS 25, 26, 432 and 25, 44, 135 and which are very stable in transport, the side edges of the bags or sacks lying in one plane define the disc-like sides of the reel. If, for example, paper sacks having seams stuck by water-soluble glues are coiled to form a reel, the longitudinal seams of the sacks which form tube sections lie on top of one another because the sacks are supplied and wound up with their side edges in alignment. However, in the case of paper sacks which are cemented with the aid of water-soluble glues it is necessary for achieving the desired strength that the solvent is able to evaporate or be absorbed by the layers of paper. In the region of the bases of such sacks there is an adequate number of paper layers for absorbing the aqueous component of the cement but, since the longitudinal seams are superposed, they cannot dissipate the solvent component of their cement when the sacks have been wound up to form a reel. The known reel of imbricated band is therefore not suitable for paper sacks stuck with water-soluble cements because, after the sacks have been uncoiled from the reel, they still exhibit sticky longitudinal seams which are unable to meet strength requirements.
According to the invention, there is provided a package of flat sacks or bags of paper or a similar absorbent material and which are glued together with water-soluble glue, which are superposed in overlapping staggered scale formation, and are coiled to form a transportable reel of an imbricated band held together by at least one retaining tape, wherein the sacks or bags are staggered laterally to either side of the longitudinal centre line of the reel of imbricated band and the respective outer side edges of the staggered sacks or bags form the parallel lateral surfaces of the reel.
Also according to the invention, there is provided a package of flat sacks or bags of paper or a similar absorbent material and which are glued together with water-soluble glue, which are superposed in overlapping staggered scale formation, and are coiled to form a transportable reel of an imbricated band held together by at least one retaining tape, wherein the longitudinal sides of the sacks are at an acute angle to the longitudinal direction of the band so that the end surfaces of the reel are formed by corners of the sacks or bags.
Advantageous embodiments of the invention have been described in the subsidiary claims.
One example of the invention will now be described in more detail with reference to the drawing, wherein: Figure 1 is a plan view of a reel of imbricated band and imbrication with laterally staggered sacks; Figure 2 is a plan view of a reel of imbricated band and an imbrication with sacks disposed obliquely to the reel, and Figure 3 is a side elevation of the Figure 1 and 2 plan views.
Sacks I of paper or like absorbent material are placed on an imbricated band 2 in such a way that a lateral spacing 3 is created between two successive sacks. The imbricated band 2 is coiled to form a reel 4 of imbricated band, which reel is held together by two retaining tapes 5 which are wound up together with the imbricated band 2.
In the example of Figure 1, the sacks 1.1 placed towards the left from the left end face of the reel 4 with their left folded edge 6 and the sacks 1.2 placed towards the right from the right end face of the reel 4 with their right folded edge 7. The left end face of the reel is the face shown lowermost in the Figure. Thus the sacks are staggered laterally to the right and left alternatively in the longitudinal direction or axis of the band.
Longitudinal seams 8 of the sacks 1 are offset by the amount of the spacing 3 so that the longitudinal seams 8 of successive sacks 1 do not lie on one another and the solvents emanating from the cement connecting the longitudinal seams can be absorbed by the layers of preceding and subsequent sacks 1.
In the Example of Figure 2, the staggering of the longitudinal seams 8 is achieved in that the sacks 1 are placed on the imbricated band 2 obliquely to the length of the band 2. The end faces of the reel 4 of imbricated band are formed by the corners of the bases, one end face by the right-hand upper and the other end face by the lefthand lower corner of the base.
WHAT WE CLAIM IS: 1. A package of flat sacks or bags of paper or a similar absorbent material and which are glued together with water-soluble glue, which are superposed in overlapping staggered scale formation, and are coiled to form a transportable reel of an imbricated band held together by at least one retaining tape, wherein the sacks or bags are staggered laterally alternately to either side of the longitudinal centre line of the reel of imbricated band, and the respective outer side edges of the staggered sacks or bags form the parallel lateral surfaces of the reel.
2. A package of flat sacks or bags of paper or a similar absorbent material and which are glued together with water-soluble glue, which are superposed in overlapping staggered scale formation , and are coiled to form a transportable reel of an imbricated band held together by at least one retaining tape, wherein the longitudinal sides of the sacks are at an. acute angle to the longitudinal direction of the band so that the end surfaces of the reel are formed by corners of the sacks or bags.
3. A package storage reel constructed and arranged substantially as hereinbefore described and shown in the accompanying drawings.

Claims (3)

**WARNING** start of CLMS field may overlap end of DESC **. together by two retaining tapes 5 which are wound up together with the imbricated band 2. WHAT WE CLAIM IS:
