Abstract
156,135. Soc. L'Air Liquide, Soc. Anon. pour l'Etude et l'Exploitation des ProcÚdÚs G. Claude. Dec. 30, 1919, [Convention date]. Hydrogen; nitrogen.-In the manufacture of ammonia by the hyper-pressure process as set forth in Specification 130,086, [Class 1 (i), Chemical processes &c.], hydrogen is separated from coal gas by the use of solvents as set forth in Specifications 130,092, 130,358, and 131,091, [all in Class 1 (i), Chemical processes &c.], methane being obtained at the same time. Carbon dioxide is added to the hydrogen if necessary. Specification 130,365. [Class 1 (i), Chemical processes &c.], is referred to in this ccnnection. In applying the process to existing coke ovens, to replace in part the gases thus utilized, water gas for calorific purposes therein is prepared by cooling the incandescent coke by means of steam in apparatus as shown in the Figure. Steam is passed through the perforated pipe T into the chamber A, from which the gases pass through the heating pipes F of the steam generator G. Nitrogen may be obtained by burning some of the hydrogen with air in gas engines.
