Abstract
In order to achieve a pure bend stressing in one plane in a method of bend testing a fibre by repeatedly winding-on and unwinding a weight-loaded fibre section (12), the bend-test device has a cone (10) as winding mandrel whose axis of rotation (14) is inclined to the horizontal at an angle which is equal to the pitch angle of a groove (18) incorporated in the mandrel so that the weight-loaded fibre always enters the groove in a vertical part. The fibre is fixed to the cone on one end of the groove by means of a clamp (19) and can be brought out through a bore in the axis (14) so that if the test piece is an optical fibre, the attenuation of the fibre, for example, can be measured during the bend testing. The cone (10) is driven by a motor (11), and sensors (24, 25) determine when the end positions have been reached and reverse the direction of rotation. <IMAGE>
