Abstract

In the case of the seat (2) which is arranged along the central aisle in buses and bounds the said aisle, the armrest (3) is designed such that it can be pivoted out of an in-use position (G) into a stand-by position (B) in which it makes it possible for a person to sit on the seat and walk down the central aisle without being obstructed. The armrest (3) therefore has an angular leg (7), the length (L) of which corresponds approximately to half the distance (A) measured on the backrest (5) between the in-use position (G) and the stand-by position (B) located to the side of the sitting area (4). The free end of the leg (7) is mounted such that it can pivot about an axis (10) which runs parallel to the longitudinal direction of the horizontal part (8) of the armrest (3). On being pivoted through approximately 180 DEG the armrest (3) is transferred from the in-use position (G) into the stand-by position (B) or vice versa. In both positions (G or B) the armrest (3) is designed such that it can be locked automatically. <IMAGE>
