Abstract

1537567 Brushgear for electric motors GENERAL MOTORS Ltd 9 Sept 1977 [1 Oct 1976] 40776/76 Heading H2A A two-speed permanent-magnet electric motor includes a third brush 3 for high speed operation whose centre of contact moves towards brush 1 as the motor is run in, in order to compensate for the tendency of the motor to run faster as friotional resistance decreases during this period. The shift is produced by brush wear, the brush face 7 being initially chamfered as shown, or the brush holder being non-radial, Figs. 7, 8 (not shown)
