1534674 Seat-belt retractors TOKAI RIKA DENKI SEISAKUSHO KK 9 March 1977 [26 March 1976] 03187/77 Heading A3V For locking a seat-belt retractor against retraction so as to relieve pressure on the user, a ratchet wheel 6 on the spool is engageable by a pawl 9 whose position is controlled by a pin 11 engaging in cam guides 24, 25, 27 in a cam plate 12 frictionally coupled for rotation with the ratchet wheel, the guide 24 disengaging the pawl during initial belt withdrawal (clockwise rotation of the spool, wheel and plate), the guide 25 holding the pawl disengaged as the belt is retracted to contact the user, the pin 11 having been diverted automatically from guide 24 to guide 25 by switching means 23, and the pawl being positioned in locking engagement with the ratchet wheel by guide 27 on subsequent belt withdrawal to a looser position.
