Abstract

1532878 Measuring speed SMITHS INDUSTRIES Ltd 13 Sept 1977 [13 Sept 1976] 37925/76 Heading G1N A speed measuring apparatus has a rotor comprising a plurality of alternate North and South poles around its periphery, a stator having interdigitated poles 16, 17 and a coil 14 in which is induced a signal representative of the speed of rotation of the rotor. The stator poles 16, 17 are tapered towards their free ends, Fig. 2. The magnetic poles in the form of a magnet 24 are rotated by a shaft 19 through an annular metal body 26 and a sleeve 25, a sleeve 27 of sintered metal impregnated with silicone oil forming a bearing for the magnet assembly.
