Abstract

1532730 Pipe joints EISENBAU ALBERT ZIEFLE KG 11 Oct 1977 [18 Oct 1976 30 Nov 1976] 42210/77 Heading F2G An electrically insulating joint between pipe stubs 3 (Fig. 1) for connection in a pipe line comprises flanged pipe pieces 1, 2 one of the pieces 1 having a frusto-conical outer surface 4 to engage a seating surface 9 of a collar 8 which is welded to the pipe piece 2 with the interposition of a sealing ring 12, the pipe piece 1 being provided with an insulating layer 5 over all of its surfaces except the stub 3, the layer 5 consisting of a heat-hardened thermosetting resin composed of an epoxy resin base crosslinked with a polyester resin containing carboxyl groups. A further insulating washer may be interposed between the pipe pieces 1, 2 and the collar 8 may screw on the piece 2 in place of being welded thereto. Fig. 5 shows a bolted flanged joint in which both pipe pieces 20, 21 are provided with an insulating layer 25 similar to the layer 5, and in Fig. 6 flangeless fittings are provided with an insulating layer 29 and secured together by a tubular shell 33 adhesively bonded thereto with or without (as shown) the interposition of a further washer between the opposed ends of the fittings.
