Abstract
1532212 Connector assembly GENERAL ELECTRIC CO Ltd 30 Oct 1975 [4 Nov 1974] 47662/74 Heading H2E A connector assembly comprises a plurality of multicontact plug or socket connectors mounted on a planar base plate so that the wiring conductors of the connectors extend through holes in the plate and each connector is secured to the plate by insulating projections extending through some of the holes on the plate and which are retained in position by the respective wiring conductors. In an embodiment the base plate 1 is made of tin-plated steel and sockets 2 are mounted on it. The socket comprises a moulding 3, of insulating material, and a plurality of pairs of contacts 4, disposed to co-operate with a p.c.b. (not shown); each contact 4 has a wiring pin 5 which extends from the rear face of moulding 3 through a hole 6 on plate 1. Cantilevered detents 7 lock contacts 5 in position. Some of detents 7 are provided with extension 8 which engages the rear face of plate 1. The rear face of moulding 3 may be provided with a plurality of bosses 9 for locating the rear face of moulding 3 in the plane of plate 1. Normally, the base plate 1 is used as a "ground plane" in which case steel bushes 10 are used to connect pins five to the plate 1. Bush 10 is made of rolled steel, it push fits in a hole 6, and has a hollow cylindrical body 11 and two resilient fingers 12, and an axial slot 13 in portion 11. Fingers 12 are sufficiently long, e.g. extend to a distance equivalent to one wrapped connection, so that pin 5 can be readily withdrawn.
