Abstract

Hoods and opening tops.-Relates to opening tops for side-cars, cycle-cars, &c. in which the top is detachably hinged to the lower portion of the body to give access to the car. According to the invention, the opening top comprises a top panel and the upper portions of the side and rear panels, while the wind-screen is carried by the lower portion of the body. In the arrangement shown, the top a is hinged at its rear end to the lower body portion c and the detachable hinges comprise pins e carried by brackets d on the top a and secured in slotted brackets f on the portion c. Springs &c. h<1> adjustable by wing-nuts i or levers and balance weights, may be arranged to assist the opening movement. A weather-tight. joint between the opening top and the body is obtained by furnishing the lower rails of the top with suitable packing-material or with a pneumatic cushion. The top may be hinged to the body at its front end. Fig. 6 shows an arrangement in which the top a and the wind-screen l are operated simultaneously. The screen l is carried by a hinged cover p, and arms r, s carried by the cover p and top a respectively are connected by means of links t, u to a hand-lever q.
