Abstract

1531803 Dual proportioning or limiting valves SOC ANON DBA 1 March 1976 [1 April 1975 10 Oct 1975] 08118/76 Heading F2F A braking correction device comprises two correcting (proportioning or pressure limiting) valves each associated with respective circuits of a dual circuit braking system and each including a piston 16 or 18, inlet 28 or 30, outlet 32 or 34 and projection 48 or 50 of piston 16 or 18 contacting one face of a common rocker member 46, the other face of the rocker member contacting a diametrical surface of an incompressible elastomeric block 42 having the shape of a half body of revolution, the block 42 and rocker member 46 together being rotatable in a complementary cavity of a rigid element 40 about axis Z-Z<1>, the rigid element 40 being coupled to an input member 36 whose movement is subject to a return spring 58 but may also be associated with variation in vehicle loading. The device may also operate to compensate for slight pressure drop in one circuit caused by leakage or to initiate a substantial pressure increase in one circuit on failure of the other. Each valve comprises a part hollow piston 16 or 18 slidable in bore 12 or 14, the internal bore 20 or 22 housing a ball 21 or 23 biased on to a valve seat but normally raised from the valve seat by a projection of an abutment 24 or 26 to allow a restricted flow from inlet to outlet. Thus movement of either piston to the left as shown in Fig. 1 caused by rotation of rocker and block caused either by a pressure difference across the other piston or by increased pressure through input member 36 causes ball 21 or 23 to lift further from its seat allowing increased flow to increase outlet pressure but movement to the right shuts the valve.
