Abstract
1530296 Magnetic separators ENGLISH CLAYS LOVERING POCHIN & CO Ltd 27 May 1976 [29 May 1975 9 Jan 1976] 23522/75 and 00887/76 Heading B2J Magnetisable particles are removed from a fluid by passing from an inlet 3 to an outlet 4 of a chamber 1 internally divided by partitions such as tubes 5, 7 between which is a porous magnetisable material 6 which, when the chamber is in a magnetic field, e.g. of a superconductive solenoid 9, retains the magnetisable particles which can then be released by withdrawing the chamber from the magnetic field and flushing it with clean fluid, the arrangement of the chamber, the partitions and the material 6 being such that the linear velocity of the fluid decreases as it passes through the chamber, which is said to increase the efficiency of collection of weakly magnetisable particles. Fig. 3 (not shown) illustrates a system in which a connected pair of chambers are reciprocated so that one chamber is magnetised and receives impure fluid while the other is degassed and flushed, these positions being reversed cyclically. The system includes the necessary sequentially operated valves and associated piping and tanks. In Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown), the partitions are in chordal planes of the cylinder with the fluid flowing from the narrower to the broader partitions.
