Abstract

1527376 Preserving crops B P CHEMICALS Ltd 31 Aug 1976 [17 Sept 1975] 38179/75 Headings A2B and A2D [Also in Division A5] Grass, agricultural crops and animal feedstuff are preserved by adding thereto a composition comprising crotonic (2-butenoic) acid or vinyl acetic (3-butenoic) acid. The composition may also contain formic, acetic, propionic, acrylic, methacrylic, allyl acetic (4-pentenoic), 2-methyl-2-butenoic, itaconic (methylene succinic), #, #-dimethyl acrylic (3-methyl-2-butenoic) vinyl malonic (2-propene-1, 1-dicarboxylic), or aconitic (1, 2, 3- propene tricarboxylic) acids, a surface active agent, formaldehyde and phosphoric acid. The amount of crotonic and/or vinyl acetic acid used may be 0.1-2.5% based on the weight of material to be preserved. The acid may be used in water, oil or alcohol solution. The material to be preserved may be wheat, oats, rye, maize, hay, silage, tick beans, bagasse, soya beans, sunflower seed, rape seed, ground nuts, fish meal, meat meal or bone meal.
