Abstract

1277874 Preserving grass and green crops BP CHEMICALS INTERNATIONAL Ltd 22 July 1969 [23 July 1968] 34986/68 Heading A2D A method for preventing the growth of mould in grass and other green crops comprises treating freshly harvested grass or other green crops with propionic acid. The propionic acid per se may be added or diluted with an inert solvent, preferably water. Further the propionic acid may be added in association with acetic acid and/or formic acid and/or other additives used in the preservation of crops. The used is preferably used in an amount of 0.1-10% by weight of the grass or green crops, more preferably 0.5-1.25%. The propionic acid may conveneiently be sprayed onto the crop as it is cut.
