Abstract
1525105 Centrifugal separators and filters MANNESMANN AG 3 Sept 1975 [6 Sept 1974] 36338/75 Headings BID and B2P An apparatus for separating solids and liquid from a mixture thereof comprises two interconnected concentric annular chambers 1, 1', Fig. 1, arranged in a container 2 which has a tapering lower portion and is provided with an outlet 8 for separated solids, the external chamber 1 having a tangential inlet 3 for the introduction of the solids-liquid mixture; an adjustable guide plate 7 arranged adjacent the lower portions of the chambers 1, 1' and having a deflecting surface for directing purified liquid exiting from chamber 1 upwardly through the chamber 1', a conical extension of the guide plate 7 defining with the radially outer wall 4 of the chamber I an annular gap 6 for the passage of separated solids; and an overflow 10 for discharging the purified liquid from the container. The container may be pressureless or pressurized as shown in the left-hand and right-hand half of Fig. 1 respectively. A baffle 9 is provided above the outlet from chamber 1' for uniform distribution of the purified liquid. A portion of the liquid is discharged with the solids through the gap 6 and, after reversing, flows upwardly to discharge with the bulk of purified liquid via the overflow 10 and an outlet tube 11. A filter bed 16 may be provided between the chambers 1, 1' and the overflow 10. A flocculating agent may be added to the mixture before it enters the chamber 1 to improve the separation of very fine solid particles. In Fig. 4, a separating plate 13 is provided above the chambers 1, 1'. Tubes 14 extend through the plate and serve to conduct purified liquid. Tubes 15, for the removal of floating substances, extend directly from below the plate 13, upwardly through the plate and open either directly out of the container (right-hand portion of Figure) or into a collecting conduit (left-hand portion).
