Cylinders, cooling.- In order to prevent the cylinder barrel from becoming hotter on the exhaust valve side than on the admission valve side, a ring of metal 6 of good heat conductivity such as copper or aluminium is inserted between the cast-iron head 1 and barrel 3. The ring may be provided with ribs 7 or it may be a thin plate with joint making packing on both sides.
