Abstract

1521892 Binder resin for foundry sand RHONE-POULENC INDUSTRIES 19 Sept 1975 [23 Sept 1974] 38597/75 Headings C3B, C3N and C3R A binder for casting sand comprises a resin prepared by a co-condensation of a phenol, an epoxy resin and an aldehyde or ketone; the resin is curable by hexamethylenetetramine. The phenol resin may have a composition corresponding to a novolac with a proportion of aldehyde or ketone of 0À5-0À9 mole per mole of phenol. The weight of epoxy resin may correspond to 1-45% of the weight of the phenolic resin that would theoretically be formed. The binder resin may be pre-formed or the condensation may take place simultaneously with the cooling of the sand.
