Abstract
1521473 Bicycle type exercising apparatus ABLEC Ltd 10 Oct 1975 [12 Oct 1974 31 May 1975] 44306/74 and 23755/75 Heading A6M [Also in Division B7] A bicycle type exercising apparatus has a frame comprising a first rigid member 10 which carries at one upper end a seat 18 (or handle bar) and has at its other end a ground-engaging foot 19, a second rigid member 11 which has at one upper end a handle bar 20 (or a seat) and is connected at its other lower end to a support 14 mounted on the member 10 intermediate its ends, and a third rigid member 12 which has at one lower end a ground-engaging foot 22 and is connected at its other upper end to the support 14, the support 14 carrying pedals 29 for driving rotary brake means, the members 10, 11 and 12 being movable relative to one another between an erected position (as shown) in which the members are in a generally X-configuration and a collapsed position. Preferably the member 11 is fixed relative to the support 14 and the members 10 and 12 are pivotally connected thereto with stops for limiting their movement in the erected position. The angle between the member 12 and the lower portion of member 10 in the erected position is greater than the angle between the member 11 and the upper portion of member 10 and the vertical distance between the level of the support and the ground is smaller than the vertical distance between the support and the seat and handle bar. The rotary brake means (Fig. 3, not shown) may be a friction wheel (26) mounted in the support 14 and driven by pedals 29 and engaged by a friction band (30) connected at its ends to the support one end being adjustable to vary the friction locking on the wheel. The friction wheel can be circular or ellipsoidal and a free wheel device can be incorporated in the drive. The seat 18 can be telescopically mounted in the frame member 10 with a locking screw (38) arranged to engage a plate to press it against the seat mounting member 37 (Fig. 4, not shown). The pedals 29 can be provided with straps connected by releasable means to the ends of the pedals.
