Abstract

1519402 Particulate core for concrete moulding NORCEM AS 2 Feb 1976 [3 Feb 1975] 04007/76 Heading B5A A cavity is formed in a concrete deck slab during moulding by a core comprising a tube 12 (Fig. 2) permeable to air and filled with particulate material G, the tube being filled and emptied by an air stream. As described, a layer of concrete is cast into a form 10, and then a plurality of flexible, perforated polyethylene (or paper, woven or non-woven cloth) tubes 12 are mounted across the form between opposed walls 11, 11<SP>1</SP>. One end of each tube is closed by a perforated plug 13, the parallel tubes are interconnected by adhesive tape and steel wires, and the other ends stretched around collars 14 and attached one after the other, to a flexible conduit 18 (Fig. 4). With traps 25, 26 opened, a fan 16 blows air around conduits 17/15a/18/20 and out through the tube perforations to force expanded polystyrene or clay globules G into successive tubes 12, which are closed by plugs 22 as they are filled. Further concrete is cast to embed the filled tubes and bond to the ready-cast layer. After at least partial hardening, the traps 25, 26 are closed (to the dotted position of Fig. 4), and the fan 16 blows air around conduits 17/15a to set up a suction effect and remove the globules G from the tubes one after another through end wall 11. Alternatively, the globules are blown or sucked from the tubes through end wall 11<SP>1</SP>. The tubes 12 are left in the concrete.
