1517954 Reciprocating pumps PHYSICS INTERNATIONAL CO 20 June 1975 [21 June 1974] 53038/77 Divided out of 1517953 Heading F1A The plunger 66 of a fuel pump is operated by springs 46, 52 when the gas-pressure in a chamber 60, to be connected to an I.C. engine, falls and fuel is pumped from the chamber 64. At low engine speeds the plunger 48 is lifted by the gas-pressure to compress the spring 52 and at higher gas-pressures the annular plunger 54 is also lifted to compress the spring 46. The springs are assisted by gas-pressure in the spring chamber 42, the gas-pressure being limited to 29 bars by the relief valve 82.
