Abstract
1516995 Grinding machine control SEIKO SEIKI KK 2 Sept 1975 [3 Sept 1974 25 Oct 1974 28 Oct 1974] 36109/75 Heading G3N [Also in Division B3] A grinding machine, e.g. a centerless internal grinder 1, effects a comparison between the actual rate at which a grinding wheel 4a removes material from the workpiece W and a predetermined material removal rate. The difference controls the relative infeeding movement of the workpiece and wheel to reduce the difference to zero using servomotor 7. Detector 8 continuously measures the inner diameter of workpiece W while it is being ground and clock pulses from generator 11 are used so that one signal from the size detector 8 at a first clock pulse is subtracted from another signal from detector 8 at a second clock pulse to give a signal related to material removal rate, which is compared with a rate set in circuit 14 in differential amplifier 12 and the result fed to servo-controller 15 which controls motor 7. Schmidt trigger 16 generates outputs P 1 , P 2 when respective predetermined workpiece diameters are detected to stop or reverse table feed or to start finishing grinding. Detector 17 measures wheel spindle power consumption which is proportional to tangential grinding force and this is compared with pre-set values 18 in circuit 19. The wheel grinding ability decreases with each cycle so that, when power consumption reaches a certain value, a circuit passes a signal via circuit 13 to cause the differential amplifier to reduce the predetermined material removal rate. After a certain reduction, the wheel must be dressed. Other embodiments Figs. 3 - 6 (not shown) are concerned with the changeover between rough, fine and finish grinding.
