1514907 Substituted phenyl guanidines WILLIAM H RORER Inc 30 May 1975 41750/77 Divided out of 1514198 Addition to 1451480 Heading C2C A process for preparation of compounds of Formula IV (wherein: R 2 , R 3 , R 4 , R 5 and R 6 are the same or different and are each a hydrogen or halogen atom, or a haloloweralkyl, nitro, cyano, loweralkylsulphonyl, loweralkoxy or loweralkyl group, provided at least one of R 2 , R 3 , R 4 , R 6 and R 6 is other than a hydrogen atom; R<SP>a</SP> is a hydrogen atom, or a loweralkyl, intermediate alkyl, loweralkenyl, cyclealkyl, cycloalkylloweralkyl, aralkyl, cycloalkenyl, acyl, aroyl or aryl group; and lower denotes C 1-6 radicals and intermediate denotes C 6-12 radicals and either R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>11</SP>, which may be the same or different, are each hydrogen, loweralkyl, intermediate alkyl, cycloalkyl, cycloalkylloweralkyl, aralkyl, loweralkenyl, cycloalkenyl, aryl, acyl or aroyl; or R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>11</SP> together are a loweralkylindenyl or heterolower alkylindenyl) and non-toxic acid addition salts thereof, which process comprises intimately contacting a substituted aniline salt of the formula with a cyanamide N#C-NR<SP>1</SP>R<SP>11</SP> in the presence of phenol cresol oxylenol as solvent at a temperature of 25-150‹ C.
