Abstract

1329012 Trifluoromethylnitraminobenzene MONSANTO CHEMICALS Ltd 20 July 1971 [19 Aug 1970] 39955/70 Heading C2C Trifluoromethylnitraminobenzene of the gene - ral formula or a salt thereof, where x and y are each 1 or 2, R is a hydrogen atom or a substituted or unsubstituted hydrocarbyl radical, R 1 , R 2 and R 3 are each a halogen or a hydrogen atom or a cyano, nitro, trichloromethyl, -SO 3 H, -COR<SP>1</SP>, or -CO 2 R<SP>1</SP> group where R<SP>1</SP> is a hydrogen atom or a substituted or unsubstituted hydrocarbyl radical and R 3 can be an alkyl group of from 1 to 4 carbon atoms when R 1 or R 2 is other than a hydrogen atom are prepared by adding the corresponding trifluoromethylaniline and acetic anhydride simultaneously and separately to a stirred mixture of nitric acid and acetic acid optionally containing acetic anhydride. Compounds claimed per se are 4-nitramino-3-nitrofluoromethylbenzene, 5 -nitramino - 2 -nitrotri - flouromethylbenzene, 2 -nitramino - 5 -nitrotri - fluoromethylbenzene, 2-nitramino-1, 4-di(trifluoromethyl) benzene, 2-chloro-5-nitraminotrifluoromethylbenzene, 5-chloro-2-nitraminotrifluoromethylbenzene, and 4-chloro-3-nitraminotrifluoromethylbenzene. The compounds have herbicidal or bactericidal properties.
