Abstract
1514717 Automatic speed control GECELLIOTT AUTOMATION Ltd 30 June 1975 [12 July 1974] 30980/74 Heading G3R A speed control system for an electric motor has a motor speed feedback loop including a lowpass filter whose characteristic is varied temporarily to increase the system response e.g. to a step load. In the embodiment, for use with a D.C. motor, the output at 6 from a motor driven D.C. tachometer is compared in amplifier 7 with a speed reference, on 9, to form a current reference for an inner motor current control loop. The negative feedback components of speed control amplifier 7 form a first path 14, 15 and a second path 11, 12, 13, 21, 22, the latter being provided with grounded diodes 16, 17. In response to a step change in load e.g. in a strip rolling mill, the current in resistance 13 increases until one of the diodes 16, 17 breaks down. The amplifier feedback is then determined only by the first path 14, 15 whose components are such as to give a temporarily higher amplifier gain and bandwith, lower error time integral and thus faster system response. Non-linear network 20 limits the rate output of amplifier 7 and affords motor protection. Diode bridge 21, whose forward biasing current determines the switch on time of the diodes, and resistance 22, which determines when the diodes cease to conduct, may be omitted.
