Abstract

In order to improve the quality of the layer in a simple manner, cooling in this process is effected by means of carbon dioxide which is fed to the coolant nozzle (D1, D2) in the liquid state. The nozzle is preferably designed as a concentric nozzle, so that the carbon dioxide jet at all times and on all sides surrounds the jet (P1) of heated gas and molten material, independent of its direction of movement. This process is applied, in particular, in plasma jet spraying. Possible gases are preferably inert gases such as argon; possible materials are, in particular, refractory metals, ceramic and metal-ceramic materials, and suitable workpieces are, in particular, metal, stone and ceramic objects. <IMAGE>
