1512480 Soil working implements and methods NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORP 26 March 1975 [28 Dec 1973] 59950/73 Heading A1B Topsoil is removed by a plough (or rotary cultivator) from underlying subsoil which is then worked by a rotary cultivator, and is deposited on worked subsoil. In Figs. 1 and 4, the plough 11 is behind the rotary cultivator 12 and laterally offset so that the topsoil removed by the plough 11 from the unworked soil 32 to expose the subsoil 33, is deposited on the subsoil 34 which has just been worked by the rotary cultivator 12. Three such assemblies of plough 11 and cultivator 12 are coupled together in echelon to form a multi-furrow implement (Fig. 5). In Fig. 9, the rotary cultivator 12 is immediately behind the plough 11 so that the topsoil removed by the plough 11 is deposited on the subsoil 34 which was worked by the cultivator on the preceding pass of the implement. Fertiliser is dispensed onto the subsoil before or during working by the cultivator, through a spout 39 behind the plough 11 or in front of the cultivator 12 (Figs. 1 and 4) or between the plough 11 and the cultivator 12 (Fig. 9). Fertiliser is metered by a device rotated by a land wheel.
