Abstract

Each information position of the data matrix of M rows and N columns corresponds to a binary zero or a binary one. The device contains means (28, 29) for receiving and guiding the card along a control area, in each case a number of row data and column data detection elements (34, 32) which are at right angles to one another, and circuit means connected to the latter. When the leading edge of the card passes the row data detection elements (34), these circuit means activate the associated column data detection elements (32) in order to receive from the latter output signals corresponding to the binary value of the information position read. These output signals are successively supplied to a memory which stores them at particular address locations in accordance with their correlation with the data matrix so that, after the card has passed through the control area, a complete arrangement of the information recorded thereon is available. <IMAGE>
