Abstract

1511185 Paper-making J M KIDD 13 Dec 1976 [3 Feb 1976 16 March 1976] 4101/76 and 10430/76 Heading D2A [Also in Division D5] Apparatus for making paper articles from pulp comprises an open ended box 10 over the mouth of which is located a screen 12. A mould 11 having walls 20 which define the outline of the article to be made is located over the screen. In use, the base/ screen/mould assembly is immersed in a water tank 28 with the screen below the water level. Pulp 31 is then poured into the mould 11 and the whole assembly is raised to the position deposited in Fig. 4 where a layer of pulp 33 has been formed on the screen and the screen is at the water level. Further raising of the assembly, as in Fig. 5, causes the falling water level within the box 10 to form a vacuum in the box which consolidates the layer 33. The article thus formed can be pressed between the screen and an upper plate and then dried in an oven. Water marks may be applied (see Figs. 8 and 9 not shown) to the article before pressing and a mask may be interposed between the mould and box to control the outline of the article.
